We pay tribute to the Baroness Betty Salomon de Rothschild, the namesake of our wine and the town where our vineyards grow. She is the soul of our tradition, wine and purpose. Bat Shlomo literally means "Salomon's Daughter.”
Betty Salomon de Rothschild
Betty was a loyal philanthropist and community leader. An entrepreneur of her day, she was the first Jewish woman to create countless organizations to help the needy, encourage education amongst women and provide medical care to the poor by establishing a hospital in Paris. She did not struggle with her Jewish identity, unlike many Jews of her status in her day, but rather considered it a source of pride. She was described by Lady Constance Battersea as "warm-hearted, generous, and deeply devoted to the Jewish People." James Edmond de Rothschild, the Zionist who established the original vineyard and town of Bat Shlomo, was Betty’s youngest son, of five children.
